The Month in One Line
June was the peak procurement month for public sector events — councils, NHS bodies, and government departments are all buying for autumn conference and ceremony programmes.
What Moved in June
Annual conference and away-day provision: fourteen councils and eight NHS bodies published events management framework contracts in June for their 2026-27 requirements. Average contract value: £220k over 2 years. Hybrid event delivery (in-person + streaming) is now a standard requirement in all new frameworks.
Audio-visual and production: NHS England published its AV and event production framework renewal in June. Seven NHS trusts also published independent AV procurement. The specification now routinely includes BSL interpretation, captioning, and accessibility as mandatory requirements.
Civic ceremony and mayoralty: forty-six councils published civic ceremony and mayoral function management procurement in June — the highest June total on record, driven by elections and new council formations following local government reorganisation in 22 areas.
Public exhibitions and consultations: planning authorities published 31 public exhibition and consultation event management contracts in June, linked to infrastructure planning for HS2 Phase 2b, Sizewell C, and other nationally significant infrastructure projects.
Catering at events: event catering is frequently separated from venue hire in public sector procurement. Eight councils published standalone event catering framework notices in June.
Who Is Buying Right Now
- Newly formed unitary councils: 14 new unitary councils formed from 2025 reorganisations are building their events and civic function supply chains from scratch.
- NHS Bodies: NHS trusts and ICBs run significant internal conference and training event programmes. Hybrid delivery is the standard requirement.
- Government departments: post-spending review departmental away-days and strategy events are procured in June-July for autumn delivery.
Forward Signals for July
UK Government's International Investment Summit (planned October 2026) is being scoped in July. The event management, security, and AV procurement for this will publish in July-August.
The Number That Matters
